Returning to running after pregnancy can raise different questions for every runner. You may be aiming for a first 5K, returning to a familiar route, or thinking about a marathon further ahead. Your goals and current concerns are useful starting points for a conversation about your return.
Bring your running history, your current activity, any symptoms you have noticed, and what you hope to do next. Mention concerns such as leaking, pelvic heaviness or pain, as well as any back, hip or other running-related symptoms. An appointment can help you explore which issues need assessment and what support may fit your goals.
A general article cannot decide when you personally are ready to run. Your recovery, symptoms and circumstances need to be considered. Ask your physiotherapist how a plan might be adapted to you rather than relying on a date alone.
For running concerns without pelvic floor symptoms, choose an initial physiotherapy appointment. If you also have pelvic floor symptoms, choose an initial pelvic floor appointment. Your initial assessment is 45 minutes and costs $165; no referral is required.
